Phenolic laminated Paper Phenolic and Phenolic Cotton Laminates have high mechanical strength, excellent moisture resistance and heat resistance, as well as good electrical properties (with Phenolic Cotton Laminates being slightly inferior in electrical performance). They are easy to machine and are widely used in electrical products. With a density of approximately 1.35 g/cm³—about half that of aluminum—they are also extensively used in aerospace and other structural applications.
Phenolic laminated products have good chemical resistance. They can withstand organic solvents, organic acids, and diluted inorganic acids, making them suitable for many types of chemical equipment. However, they are generally not suitable for alkaline environments.
Paper Phenolic can be processed by sawing, drilling, turning, milling, and planing. After machining, there should be no cracking or chipping. Sheets with a thickness below 3 mm can be punched. Cold punching can be performed without heating for certain grades, while standard grades usually require preheating before punching. These materials are used as insulating components in high- and low-voltage electrical equipment and in the electronics industry.
The machining performance of Phenolic Cotton Laminates is better than that of Paper Phenolic and glass fabric laminates. Their bonding strength and impact resistance are higher than those of Paper Phenolic, but they have higher water absorption. After absorbing moisture, the electrical insulation performance decreases, and they are prone to mildew, making them unsuitable for humid and hot environments. Therefore, they are generally used as insulating structural components in low-voltage electrical equipment, such as washers, slot wedges, and threaded rods.
There are many types of glass fabric laminates, and their properties vary depending on the resin used. Compared with other laminates, they have higher mechanical strength and better heat resistance. Under high temperatures, although their flexural strength, tensile strength, and impact strength decrease, they still perform better than Paper Phenolic and Phenolic Cotton Laminates.
Melamine glass fabric laminates have high strength, arc resistance, and flame retardancy, making them particularly suitable for marine electrical equipment. Epoxy phenolic glass laminates, silicone epoxy glass laminates, diphenyl ether glass laminates, polyimide glass laminates, and polyamide-imide glass laminates all have good dielectric properties, as well as high heat resistance and flame retardancy, making them excellent dielectric insulation materials. Among them, epoxy phenolic glass laminates are the most widely produced and used.
Due to their excellent overall properties, glass fabric laminates are widely used in electrical, construction, chemical, electronic, aviation, aerospace, automotive, railway, and shipbuilding industries.
